Suspension of vice chancellor PU demanded.

The Academic Group and Academic Forum have expressed concern on the pathetic state of affairs of the Punjab University in the tenure of the present Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran, who has badly damaged the institutional integrity, and created doubts about this oldest seat of learning in the perspective of national security. A joint meeting of the Academic Group and Academic Forum was chaired by Professor Dr Nasir Ahmad on Wednesday. 

The incident of hostel in which suspected terrorists were arrested reflects utter administrative failure, which owe to indifferent attitude of the VC towards the university affairs and blatant patronisation of his buddies. The VC, instead of mending his ways, has intentionally started a blame game to shift his failure to others shoulders. The meeting also strongly condemned the role of academic staff association as a pocket union and hand-puppet of the VC, and as a group of beneficiaries who is always ready to protect his interests rather protecting the rights of teaching community. 

It was sadly noted that the VC has practically waged a war on dissent, and is unwilling to give the faculty members the right to differ and has little tolerance for fundamental rights of academic freedom, equality and merit. The university is being run under the law of jungle. The administrative control is in the hands of incompetent, destitute and averse gang of criminals charged with various crimes (corruption, dishonesty, fraud and most heinous crime like murder) and their cases are pending adjudication in both apex and lower courts. 

Moral authority and honesty of the VC is already under question due to sexual harassment complaint lodged by a female faculty member of Law College of the University against him and his general reputation in this regard added with several writ petitions appeals against his illegal out of merit decisions pending with court of law and higher echelons of the government. Under the circumstances, the house strongly demanded the government to immediately suspend Vice Chancellor, Dr Mujahid Kamran, for an impartial, just and transparent inquiry of university affairs.
